can i get great shots w/ my coolpix 4600?

...because i can't seem to. sometimes a decent macro but tank shots and coloring suck. any advice? tank is in dark basement, lit by MH and VHO actinics.
 
dark basement shouldn't affect your shot, if anything it'll cut down on your reflection off the glass. Coolpix are terrible camera's though...I'm not sure you'll get anything worth a crap unless you get a tripod...even then you'll get movement blur from the current in the tank.
 
I'm going to have to disagree. I've shot some great shots with the Coolpix 995, several generations back from the 4600.

DMK, you're probably fighting white balance, most notably. I see you're using 14000K and Actinic. That's very nice to our eyes, but no camera/film exists that can capture that correctly. You simply have to do the best you can. Post some pics, let's see what you're fighting. Maybe someone here can help.
