I'm sorry but I have NO idea what you are trying to do with that tank design.
As for a pump instead of an overflow, I think you are missing part of the reason for an overflow and sump. It is to get rid of an hide things like pumps, skimmers, and heaters so you don't see them. Why would you want a pump in your tank? Also an overflow skims any surface scum off of the top of your tank and a pump is NOT going to do that. 3rd, what happens to your tank level and sump when you lose power and a vacuum sucks most of the water out of your tank into the sump.
Stick with the proven methods, you will have better luck and a safer tank...
