Can you judge CA, by ALK

Randy,
My Alk is at 8.0 dkh. I can't measure CA. I just replaced my empty AP CA kit and I replaced it with Salifert's kit. But I can't distinguish the color change. As far as I can tell my tank has zero calcium in it. So while I order another AP kit can I just judge my CA level by checking my ALK. I dose 40 mL's of your 2 part in a predominately medium stocked SPS tank. Just wondering....

Thanks
Rick

here is what you need to do get a red sea CA test kit and that is the best kit i have found. it is a pain in the ***, but it is a good test kit.

Tanks never have 0 ppm calcium. My guess is that it is over 500 ppm, and you did not get to the endpoint. Try a second syringe of titrant with the Salifert kit and keep going. Then add the values together to get a real calcium reading.

No, you cannot make any correlation between calcium and alkalinity for reef aquarium water. :)
