Can you keep a clam and sps coral with 440w Vhos?

It depends on the size and depth of the tank. I recently upgraded to MH, but previously had 384w VHO over my 58g. I was able to keep SPS and clams then. The t. crocea and maxima clams even did well under VHO.

Squamosa, gigas, and derasa clams can generally do well in less intense lighting.

As far as SPS, it depends greatly on the type of coral. Many types of montipora do well under flourescent lighting. Some acros might do well, given they are kept a bit higher in the tank.

I have a 75 gallon with 440 VHO's and it also has 1 400 watt halide. My crocea and maxima stay fully open under just the VHO's. I saw some georgous SPS and a huge teardrop maxima under nothing but VHO's in Daytona at Amazing Aquariums however it was up on racks close to the top near the lights. I would think a derasa would be fine but I would get some more opinions just to be safe. Carrie
