Candy Stripe Pistol Shrimp, Alpheus yaldwyni

I'm looking to add a few inverts to my tank and came across this:

Candy Stripe Pistol Shrimp, Alpheus yaldwyni

In the description it says its reef safe and peaceful, potentially harmful only to tiny fish.

I have a red firefish and a purple firefish. Should I be concerned about them?

I also read it will form a relationship with Yellow Watchman Gobies, Cryptocentrus cinctus or Orange Spot Prawn Gobies, Amblyeleotris guttata, among others. Anyone prefer one over the other and why?

Also if I get one of these gobies, will it be ok with my lawnmower blennie?

Thanks.

Carrie

Tony, do you have a goby with it? If so, what kind? Do they "hang" together? and do you have the candy or Tiger Pistol Shrimp, Alpheus bellulus?

oooh carrrie!

Lookatchyoo with the scientific names. :)

Are you Impressed??? :D I'm only copying and pasting. If you asked me tomorrow I would have no idea!

I figured Gary would be the first to jump on that too.

I only saw this thread Tuesday morning. Even copying and pasting takes some effort. I'm impressed, Carrie.

FWIW- Marine Oasis probably has like 5 pairs of shrimp/goby combos. You'll need to search the holding tanks because they're secretive. All are very kewl.

not really sure as to the scientific names of the gobies, but when a spare pistol comes into the shop we usually pair it up with a highfin goby or another brightly colored small species, if the pistol isn't to large. I've even seen one pair up with a tailspot blennie.

but hey, you could just get a mantis shrimp and see what fun happens in your tank :-)

LOL That doesn't say much for you Gary, but then again i heard you are impressed when someone ties their shoes with velcro....JK

Well.... what Carrie did is how it starts. I wasn't born knowing scientific names.
I think Zanclus was one of the first fish names I learned....

Really??? I'm shocked! :D

Actually, do you know them off the top of your head now or do you still have to look them up?

Gotta look up Zanclus now. I just assumed it was some Star Wars name or something.
