canister filters

I use canisters extensively for my fresh water tanks...two on each...and I've tried a lot of them. The only ones that are trouble free, in my experience, are the Eheims. They're the only ones I'd buy.

Depends on the system... #1 is Eheim.... I don't like the fluval and have had better luck with the Marineland magnums, Filstars and most recently, the Cascade filters. I have had a cascade running for three years without a hitch! The only other filters I've used without problems are my Eheims and two HOT magnums:)

I only use canisters for maintenance, so I prefer Marineland Magnums. The water polishing cartrige is invaluable.

Been running a Fluval 301 on a 55g FW tank for 15yrs. Just a broken clip and thats it. Not sure about the quality of the new ones.

of course Eheims are the way to go if you have the money. But I think the Rena FIlstars are very user friendly and have good flow. Plus they hold a lot more media than the Magnums.

Get an Eheim. Remember, you get what you pay for.
So go for the best. Anything else is a waste of money
in the long run.

After three months of use, my fluval 304 has started spitting a burst of micro bubbles every minute or so.. I think air is leaking around the quick disconnect connection. I haven't looked closely yet to see if I can fix it.

I have two fluvals running for chemical and mech. filtration - a 104 on my 20h nano and a 204 on the 38g that is quickly becoming a zoa factory! Never had a problem with them, just the detritus that gets caught in the ribbed intake and return hoses. As long as you hit them with a long hose cleaner during service, they are not an issue.
