I have narrowed my choices to these two cameras. I want to take great Macro shots. Both cameras are the same price. Please help me decide. Thanks

Hi-
These are two pretty different cameras- so a comparison is not easy to make going feature by feature. They have different size sensors, two very different body designs/layouts and two very different lenses.
Since macros are your main concern I looked to see how they each performed first. Surprisingly the Canon gets a lot more magnification even though the Kodak has a much longer zoom lens-- bottom line is the Canon will do better macros.
The Kodak has that great long lens, a good price, it's easy to use and has very good color. One thing that bothered me is it does not appear to have a custom white balance feature- so you'll be stuck with the presets and that may not be good enough since aquarium lighting is far beyond the normal spectrum of light that cameras are designed to handle.
In the Canon's favor is the lcd- flip and twist, bigger sensor for bigger [potential] prints, better macros and a custom white balance. It's also a little smaller.
Hope this helps,
Greg

Thanks, I got the canon last night. Turns out itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s very popular. I had to go to 5 different stores to find one because everyone sold out in Jacksonville. The Marco is so powerful that it zooms in on the scratches on my tank and algae on the glass and wont focus on the coral! Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s going to be a few weeks before I can take good pics with it. I like the 20 shooting modes. The tv mode takes a great pic of the tank without the glare of the light. It also has an underwater mode and I will be getting a case for it so I can take macros underwater in the tank!

Good choice Steve on the camera! My A620 should be here any day now.

Check out http://www.lensmateonline.com for some accessories (macro and others) for the A620 and other Canons. Personally I'm going to go with the 58MM adapter and the Raynox MSN-202 Macro along with a polarizer (starting research on them now) and other goodies.

They have example macro shots on their site and here's an older thread with the same info and the same pics as well: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=751367

Hope this helps.

Just depends of if you want more magnification or a lot more magnification :p If you want a lot more go with the MSN.

Sorry for the hijack PelagicMagic but hopefully this helps you out since you are looking at the same camera and another. :)

Greg-Given deeper tank shooting distance (say 12" maybe more maybe less depending on the tank) would the DCR be better without going with a telephoto lens or is my thinking far off (not uncommon when dealing with lenses :))?

For my nano's where I have corals up close and personal I think the 202 would be a better choice given the shorter distance.

Time to learn more about lenses...
