hi all, i have carbon in my skimmer, tank is very lighly stocked, how long should the carbon be good for, what is a good amount of time before replacing the carbon 4 weeks ? ir on hte first of the month ?? longer ?? less ... just looking for an avg

and since i put in the carbon my skimmer pulls no where near what it did before the carbon

Uhh I have never heard of this before. I think you should take it out of your skimmer and let you skimmer work. Why not get a phosban reactor and place your media in that. The reason your skimmer is working is because the camber where all the bubble generate is filled with carbon. Where did you hear to put your carbon in your skimmer? I usually replace carbon monthly.

Ohh ok I get it now I dont know why your skimmer isnt collecting then. I would still take it out. Find something different to house your media. I would rather have a working Skimmer than carbon.

why get a phosban reactor when my skimmer has an out flow compartment ( turbofloater 1000) and that should work

ie ... carbon in media bag in bubble trap compartment

i was thinking theres nothing left for it to pull .. as i said the tank is very lightly stocked ( 1 cbs 1 peppermint 2 cleaner shrimp 2 clowns 1 serpent star in a 125 gal tank and 60 gal sump )

GAC is reasonably inexpensive. I'll replace mine as often as every 2 weeks, but I'm heavily stocked. IMO, if you're going to leave it for a month, I'd consider rinsing it between changes. What kind of skimmer do you have? Does it have a compartment specifically for media? A dirty bag of GAC sitting inside the skimmer might be affecting its performance.
