Carbon question..

Using Marineland 1200 with BRS reactor to pass water through the carbon, everything submerged in the sump. The pump warms the water to 82 after about 12 hours so I turn the power off until the water is back to down to 80, about another 12 hours and repeat to filter the water. When the pump is off I leave everything submerged in the sump, can this cause any issues when turned back on, eg carbon and water sat in the reactor for 12 hours.
Thank you.

When I used to use a canister filter, If I ever lost power for more than an hour or two, I'd dump out the canister and clean it as I was worried about the die off that might happen from the stagnant water. I'm not sure if this was a valid concern or not, but did it as a preventative measure. I might be somewhat concerned about something similar fir a reactor shut off for 12 hours at a time, but can't confirm for sure that anything bad would happen.

How big is your tank? I might be a bit suppressed that running the pump for the reactor is heating up your tank a few degrees. You could also manifold off of your return pump and use that flow to run your reactor. That's what I do, and doesn't add any additional heat to the tank. I mainly do it because I don't have a spare pump.

Thank you for your suggestion, the tank is 90g with 30g sump, in south fl so very warm - the system is at 80 year round except for very occasional cold days in the winter. I only intend running the carbon for 1 week each month so haven't plumbed into the return, maybe I should consider as a precaution..
