for those of you that have had or do have one, are there any differences between the hardiness, feeding habits, ect. between the blue and electric green? I'm looking into buying one of these for my clowns? do they eat fish? i need to hear some experiences with them. Is there a good place to buy them for less $$. post some pics if you can. thanks!

Carpet anemones can and will eat other fish. What type of clown fish do you have? Take a look at the anemone & clownfish forum. In one of the articles that is a sticky at the top of the page it lists what type anemone your clownfish will like. Most anemones need high amounts of light so take that into consideration also.

i have a pair of black ocellaris, i want a carpet, ive tried, ritteri, and bta, i dont like bta b/c everyone has one. I have enough light, 2 175 mh in a 55. i know i want a carpet, just what color and if i should get one at all is the question?

I dont think the color would mater. I have 2 very large carpets. A green and a white. They both behave in the exact same way and even share the same spot in the tank.

Carpets are not that dependent on light. I had a green one and it did awesome in shade or bright light. They have huge apetites and can consume large fish. If you want it big feed it lots. They will eat fish but most know to stay away from them. Clownfish love carpets. I had a clark in mine, Ive seen maroons at the lfs, and my friend had a percula in his. They have a crazy grip if I touched mine with with the feeding tongs it took a fair amount of effort to pull them away.

I keep a clarkii in my carpet. I do think that color would matter. I would love a blue carpet myself.

This is not true, they require high light, espeacially carpets. You may have been lucky, but almost every book you will read states this fact. also alot of people that have kept them, will tell you the same thing.

Yes they eat fishes: our haddoni ate our coral beauty angel just 10 days ago. We used to feed it with a 4in X 1/2in fish (dead from the supermarket;) ) each 3 days; it was the first time we passed a day :mad2:

i bet it just thought it was feeding time and ate it, sorry for your loss, i know how you feel, my condy ate my copperband about two weeks ago. i'm in the process of getting him out of the tank to make room for my bright green carpet i just purchased!!!! wooo, im excited!

i got my carpet, how do you attach it to a rock or anything? i turned off all the pumps and let it set there over night with one powerhead going so it didnt blow him around, but he still isnt secured. he is half way on the sand and half on rock. his mouth was open all night, i tried feeding it some krill but it wouldnt eat it. is this normal. i aclimated it for 3 hrs usign the drip method. 1 drop per second. help!?

sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard to make a generalization about light for carpet anemones because there are several species. The easiest by far is S. haddoni, or the "saddle" anemone. It would have done well in your tank. In your case, it sounds as though you purchased an unhealthy individual to begin with.

I think so too, it wasnt kept under metal halides at the store and had been there for a lil more than a week, so maybe i'll take more care in picking out a healthy specimen next time.

whenever you purchase a carpet make sure that it is sticky, that is a sign of good health. Here's my new beast that I got a few weeks ago.

I have read in threads and books, that a carpet will eat any and all fish, including clowns trying to host. It doesn't happen always, and for some reason the most common clown victims are percs and ocellaris. I do not believe these are natural hosts for these 2 types of clownfish. I have read threads where people have been successful, just know there is a risk if you choose to try again.

Sorry about the loss.

lol, it may have been a problem if the clowns actually host in the thing. they totally ignore it and sleep on their side at the water's surface. I think i'll wait til i get a larger tank someday. thanks for the input guys!

Carpet

Carpet

I have a green carpet, sits in the sand, but the two clowns I have in the tank aren't even looking at it. Green looks good under the actinics.
