Catching hitchhiking critters

I'm planning on ordering a TBS "package." Since it's all shipped wet, not only does all the microfauna survive, but you may also get some hitchhikers.

Richard suggests a bottle trap. I'm attaching a picture. Is this what he's talking about, for catching critters? How do you use it, do you just set it down (lying down) in the tank, with some food on the inside?

I've got a trap just like that one. Unfortunately my peppermint shrimp have learned that if they get caught in it, THE BIG GIANT HAND will eventually come by and let them out. They're not even afraid of THE BIG GIANT HAND any more, swimming up to it whenever it comes into their world.
