Ok, caught the little guy/gal...

Now I would like to ID him. The pic is not very good, but any ideas you have as to what he/she may be would be good. He came in on Gulf View LR so he is from the Florida area.

Any help is appreciated...

As of now I have him set up in a 10G tank but want to make sure he has the proper diet.. etc...

I have one terrorizing my 110 looks just like yours. How did you catch him?

Well, this mantis has always been pretty bold and has always been easy to watch. He had not caused any problems so I had never really tried to remove him.

Yesterday I noticed he was out on one of the front rocks that was easy to get to. I took the rock out with the intent of a freshwater dip. This was not possible because I did not want to stress the cuke that was temporarly hiding on this rock. I put the rock in a bowl of water and slowly pored the water out of the bowl and back into the tank. Since he was so bold he came out of the rock looking for a better place to go instead of retreating back into the rock. This made it easy to shake him off. A few times he was headed for my fingers and I was a little concerned, but nothing to terrible happened and all worked out well.

Nice mantis, hard to tell the color but females are redish and males are darker in color blueish green.

Most likely Neogonodactylus wennerae

Ditto on the N.W. ID. I have two of them. Set up a little 6g, and feed him snails or crabs. Nice pet.

Hey Kyle - can we get a full tank shot? That PVC looks interesting. There was a thread with a guy that took agrocrete and crushed coral and covered his PVC to make it look like LR. That would be REALLY sweet worked into your concept...

Actually I dont have any pictures right now. My camera is a 35mm and my pics are still being developed in the new tank I put him in. My mantis loves pvc, and the best thing about it, is I can keep track of him always. I'll post in a couple days.

Looks alot like mine except mine has a white circular pattern with black surrounding it on his smashers. Not sure what you call it, but he really loves to attempt to intimidate by showing them.

Sounds, looks a bit like the one I just found, especially the white tips. See this thread for pics (not to good). Mine's about 2". No idea where he came from. Most recent additions were dead rock from www.hirocks.com and some corals. Maybe came in on the corals? If it's a smasher, are they generally okay with fish or should I keep the trap in?

Hey K! If they can catch it they will kill and eat it. I put in live shrimp in and he goes crazy. I've also seen him lunge at fish. I started out with 5 feeder mollies and now I have one.

Since mine readily takes small crabs and snails to club to death I would say he is not safe for snails or crabs. As soon as they get within a few feet of him they can consider their life over (after he/she pummels them for about 12 hours).

He's just a baby I assume...

Before I even read the thread I just knew you were talking about a mantis!Although I thought if its not a mantis its a damsel. I am begining to love these guys. I wonder if you can buy these anywhere.
