Caught Mantis Shrimp

I live in SoCal, Pasadena area and just caught a little mantis while doing a freshwaterdip on some rock. He's about 1.5 inches long, purplish and what look like two green dots on his back tail and two whitish dots on his front claws.
I went to the blue website and looked at every picture and dont know what he is and dont have a decent camera to capture his photo. The rock was originally Tonga branch and Figi if that helps. Anyone interested? Im wondering what kind he is and then looking for a home.

Late,
John

Some strange stomatopods have been coming out of Tongan rock. Basically, this is a fauna that we have very little information on. I can try to help identify if for you if you like. First step is to describe the tail (telson). Does it have two or four strong pointed teeth or a rounded posterior margin?

I'm very interested! I will definately take him. I can give you some shrooms or something in return.

Please give me a call, 818-606-1483.

Thank you,

Suzan.

I just put a little shrimp in there for him.. and got a good look.
He's in my fuge in a little plastic container, two pointed on his backside

As a first guess, I would say it could be Gonodactylellus espinosa. This is a fairly common resident of coralline algae.

John,

I just finished fragging some shrooms and I have to say that is has been the worst experience of my life! One of the little bastards squarted some kinda disgusting goo right into my eye

You know that joke I cracked about you getting some deformed shrooms, I don't think it's so much a joke anymore! LoL, but I tryed my best :D

LOL,
Its okay, shrooms are about as tough as they get and should be fine. First time fragging is always abit of an experience = )
Try fragging zoos and wondering if your cutting one of the most toxic animals in the world in your living room. I bet I'd get front page though. Fishtank kills local man.....
By the way when I peeked in on your little guy to see if it ate there was no food left in the container and he scared the hell out of me by jumping OUT of the water and hitting my finger.
Better be careful with him, he's a rambuncious little fella heh

John

LoL, thanx a bunch John I really like him :D

Did you do anything with the shrooms yet? Let me know if they turn out ok, a few of 'em looked pretty bad LoL.

I'm so evil :(

Enjoy your new mantis. You will definitley have a great time watching/learning all about them. They are freaking fantastic.

Also they are great movers.....

Love to move rock/sand/shells/anything...

LOL
