caulerpa

caulerpa

Not sure what kind. Talked to a lady that said it really ate up nutrients that made hair algae grow. I have tred everything to get rid of the hair algae, 170 hermit crabs, large snails, water changes, using a turky baster to get stuff off the rocks that make it grow, took all the rock out and scrubed with metal brush, roots must be deep in the rock cause it didnt work. Im thinking about a sea hare next, any suggestions?

caulerpa in a refugium may help but in the main tank can be worse than hair algae. I prefer chaeto in a refugium. The sea hare, an urchin,
or a lawnmower blenny each has its own issues but is a better control method than caulerpa. Caulerpa has toxins that make most
herbivores dislike it. It can die/disolve in a day.

Phosphates and Iron can be issues. Have you tested for them?

If only I could give you mine---don't let it into the display. It really is worse than hair algae: it's mildly poisonous and very few creatures eat it.

I have some Chaeto in my display and am ALWAYS pruning it. I can't take it all out because my xenia grows up it. I have it in my sump and it works well in there. Really competes with hair algae for nutrients. Get a tang! Sue
