Chalice growth questions

Is it necessary for chalices to have rock to grown on like zoos? I have a couple of chalices that have pretty much covered the entire frag rock. Do i need to remount it to a larger rock? Or will it just plate out like a monti cap.

I seen some plate out like montis... I guess depends if your chalice is plating, encrusting etc.....
