Cheap alternative to Super Glue Gel?

Marine epoxy is very cheap in the long run. Its like a water proof cement that you mix up. Some people really like it, for me it wasn't my thing, I'm more of a glue sniffer.

I get the gel glue through Premium Aquatics and its thicker the other crazy glue so I don't have to use as much.

No, the FREEZER......

The fridge does not get cold enough to stop the cross-linking process that begins once the super glue is exposed to air ( when you first open it)

But - the temp. of a freezer will.

I have several bottles that I have kept for years in the freezr, and taken them out - used some, and put them back.

the dollar store here sells it 3 tubes for $1

Yeah and those tubes are like half empty :lolspin: I bought a ton of those at the dollar store and ran out very fast.

Loc-tite is really good stuff, I get the gel one at wal-mart for 3 bucks.

I hear the bsi cyanoacrylic gel works good and you can get it in toothpaste tube size. I never tried it though.

Most welcome!

Just a side note - the solvent free super glues will last well if kept in the freezer too. BSI ( Bob Smith Indusies) makes a great line of cyanoacrylate glues.

I use the Dollar General super glue gel packs, and while cheap, I have to agree with one poster above who pointed out that you get real inconsistent results. Some tubes are full of glue, others seem to be nothing but air, and I have had several packs that were already hardened with I got them. So, it is hit or miss on quality, but hard to beat 3 for a buck.

The keeping in a freezer tip is great, going to give that a try next time I only need a tiny bit out of a tube and don't want to just toss the rest.

i use BSI ic gel as well. cures fast pretty cheap once you consider how big a tune is and how well it works. both in and out of water. hasnt hardened in the tube or nozzle yet. ive prob glued down 20 corals with it in the last 3 months. and a few rocks with no problems but sticky fingers

gel is better then the liquid stuff. the gel stays in place and wont run all over your tank plus with the gel you can build it up thicker so you can get a better hold

I hear you. I just get annoyed spending $3 for a tube, having the whole thing harden & get crusty, and then puncturing the glazed-over tube hoping to salvage a few more drops.

I thought I read about a glue that comes in a larger tube, and is just as cheap & dependable.

After you use it put it in the refrigerator wont get hard.
