Check out my new 11" Derasa!!

Thought I would share a couple pics of the new 11" Derasa I just got from a fellow RC'er from Dallas - Gary Day.
He has downgraded his tank to a 150 and the clam just took up to much room.

First a picture of me acclimatizing it in a IO bucket:

He brought it to me from Dallas in a cooler!!

Do you mind if I include a picture of my Squamosa? I've had it for over 8 years. My 55 gallon is 13" front-to-back and it barely touches both sides. I'm setting up a 90 gallon and my friend gets this along with everything else in the tank. I'll miss him but he's just too darn big.

Nice clam I like the looks of huge clams. But IME FWIW i bought a Derasa from MDM I belive last year it was @4" I forget but it grew to 7-8" in a year. Approx. i never measured and it's really hard to tell size now but it almost doubled in a year. So IMO a 11" clam = derasa probally isn't to old? I would esimate around $200 in my area. I can tell you thell are heavy bet that 11" weights close to 10lbs?? Enough to make you really grip with one hand trying not to hurt the clam. Ahh i just checked my log I bought the clam 5-5-00. So I guess it's been a year and 5mo. maybe not so fast growth

Well, the new derasa is doing very well after 3 weeks of living in a cage out of egg crate to keep the fish from picking at it - especially a Kole Tang.

Ironreef, I had thought that my old derasa was 8 or 9 inches until I got this sucker. I measured and my old derasa was actually only 6.5".

As far as price, this clam would probably retail in the $200 to $250 range at most fish stores.

Nice clam Nathan! Here is a year old pic of mine, sorry the pics not a high rez pic but, the clam is about the same size as yours, I think it was touching the sides of the bucket when I brought it home. I've had him for almost 2 years now.

I'm visiting a friend at Uconn. Playboy rated them as the number 8 party school. I had st up a web cam so I could watch my snails while I was gone. No one was interested in looking at my snails. I found a REALLY drunk girl and asked her if she wanted to see my snails. She yelled out "I have a boy friend." I tried to convince her that I really did have snails, and they really were on the internet. she still thought I was hitting on her. she also told everyone later that her boyfriend had "really big snails."
