Will a check valve with a spring be a bad thing for my system?
I currently have a 30g cube setup and it has been set up since aug '05 and it has never bee right from the beginning. I have tried everything to get the water levels to stay consistent but to no avail. I just recently thought about the check valve that I bought at the HDWR store and the fact that it has a metal spring in it. Could this be the culprit to the dead of corals and unstable parameters (specifically alk).
So I ripped the valve out last night, scabbed by plumbing until I can get the right parts in to fix it. I cut the check valve open and sure enough there was a metal spring. It did not show sings of corrosion or rust.
Mainly will a metal spring in my plumbing cause havoc on my system?
