Is it better to have a drop in chiller or a In line chiller. I would like to get 1 for my new tank and Was hoping for a Drop in chiller only becuse I have 2 pumps running now. Is there any differance as far as electric consumption or pull down on temp goes. Thanks for everyones help.

The reason I like in line chillers better is that your able to get the chiller further away from the tank. The cooler you keep the area around the tank and around the chiller the more efficient it will work.

A in line chiller will save you ele power because you get a better water mix in your tank. The drop in chiller you most have very good water movement a round the coil to make it work right. My self i would not used a drop in my tank.
30 + years playing with cold water.

Here is a picture of my sump setup. 1 pump is rated at 780gph the second pump that is the curculating pump is rated at 1150gph. The tank volum is 120 gallons. Ihope this is enough info for you to give me a better idea.

Or you can follow my link to the tank setup page wich can give you a better understanding of what I have done.

I would have the true union ball valves on the pumps right next to the out let,on my own tank i used Spears true union ball valves and thay come with fpt/soc fittings and screw right on the top of the pump outlet no adapters needed. The 1150 gph pump well work fine for the flow for the chiller.
