christmas wrasse

Excellent looking fish! I've been doing research on these and the H.melanarus as well. From what I have dug up they are usually model reef citizens when young and may eat some inverts when larger 4+ inches. They are very poor shippers, be sure to find a good source if you decide on one. The melanarus wrasse is similar in markings and is a better shipper and is usually a little friendlier with shrimp when adults.

I have a large xmas wrasse and he doesnt bother a thing! Ive heard of them picking off snails and hermits though. they dont like being in bags. when I get a wrasse I just get it in the tank as quick as possible. no acclimation.

same here just as long as PH is real close thats not a problem .they are very close to a coris wrasse in their actions and they usually are not reef safe but you can luck out and it may be okay .they will usually pic off snails and move small to medium sized rock and corals in search of critters on the bottom side of them .i have coris formosa wrasse in reef and he dosent bother anything but i also have a few coris that do go crazy so they had to be moved to my fish only tanks .i hope that it works out for you and there is a good possibility that you will be okay ,just keep him fed or he will be boisterous in searching for food .thats just my opinion!

I think any coris or halichoeres wrasse that gets bigger than 7''or 8'' isnt reef safe. mine does like the mini brittlestars but theres still a ton of them in the tank.
