I have had this clam for a little over a month now. it has been doing incredible. always open all the way. it is a Coreca. now i came home to my tank today and it is fully closed?? first time i have ever seen it totally closed.

there was a astrea snail right by the top of it. would that scare it to close completly??

I've never seen Astrea snails cause a clam to close that much. Have you checked both for pyramid snails and water parameters?

What are your lights? Have you been feeding live phyto?

Hope we can help!

Pyramid snails???

I switch 2 days ago from DT's Phytoplankton to BioPlankton

i thought that it was worth a try. it is also supposed to be very good. i have been told.

I am going to check the water now. the pH is right it is @ 8.02 pinpoint.

Pyramid snails are tiny snails that prey on clams usually at night, and are quite common. Tonight, a few hours after lights off, or before lights on, take out your clam. VERY carefully and closely inspect him, especially around the byssal opening and mantle. Remove any small snail (the look like small grains of rice, but more pointy)

A search here on RC about them will provide more info.
