Clam Depth?

I would like to get my first clam. I would like to place the clam on the bottom but my concern is the depth of my tank. The total depth is 30" but more like 25" with sand factored in. The tank is 80 gallons and has dual MH (175W) and dual 96W VHO). Could I keep a Crocea or Maxima in the sand or would I have to put it up on a higher shelf. Thanks in advance for your great advice.

with 175 watt you would probably want him up a little higher in the tank especially if it is a crocea. i have clams at several depths but the ones that are higher up seem to do better.

With your lighting you should keep them about mid level in your tank. I agree with a.p. 17.

Thanks for your replies. What about a Squamosa? Would it be fine at that depth?

I think a Derasa or Squa would be OK.

my 9'' derasa is fine on the sand bed in a 30'' tall tank. The T. maxima likes it fine 6'' below water surface under a 250Wt MH
