Clam gap huge!!

I just picked up 5" crocea last night and the mouth is open very wide. I would like to know if it displays like this when it is very hungry or do certain clams have large mouths. It is open about 3/4 of an inch round. I have not fed the tank with DT's yet, but my schedule on feeding is tonight.

In my experience croceas can be prone to gaping more so than other types of clams when stressed (eg. shipping). In most cases if they do show this behaviour they will gape less and less while acclimatizing (if params are in check). After a week the clam should appear normal as it recovers from the stress. So give the clam some time, and I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You mentioned that it was open about 3/4". I don't think that is a problem with a 5" clam.

I would wait like Mia1974 sugested.... give it a little time

Yep wait a few more days to check on the clam. The clam is still acclimating to your tank's specs/parameters. I would only worry about the clam if it's gapping becomes worst in the next few days.
