I have a clam (don't ask what kind, its pretty and purple) that I have kept for about nine months, and its acting funny= it looks like it is spliting open and will not react to light like a clam usually does. Is this normal or is he on his way out. any reply would be a great help.
thanks mae mae.

Sounds like a gaping sympton. Really hard to tell without seeing a picture. And also hard to give any advise without knowing your tank condition and the exact species. Please provide a little more info.

cal=420
alk=12.4
salinity1.021
i belive it is a ultra maxima, just added a refugim about two hours ago

Where in the tank is the clam located (height wise)

I am also assuming that the dual 150 MH are the lighting for the tank.

A pic would also be very helpful.

the clam is about 8 in. down.
I'll get a pic up as soon as I figure out the photo bucket thing(got traffic school tonight)
It looks like there is spider webbs on the clam today
I'll be back @10:pm pacific time tonight

my bad guys the salinity was @1.033 on my float hydrometer. No matter now , clam is dead!! I'll get another one later. trying to work out the other problems right now.high alkalinity,water flow since I lost my can filter, and new refugium is having trouble.
