Anyone know about how long Clams (Derasa, Crocea, Max, Gig. Squamosa) live in captivity? I know a lot of factors and variables are involved, so I am mostly looking of a range/approximation.
I have a friend who's had a few clams over 12 years. One is 26" in lenghth. I would assume given the most perfect conditions your clams would outgrow most reasonable tanks before it would die. I know that is not very accurate but it's reality. Quite a few people have had clams for many many years. Quite a few customers at teh LFS I work for have had clams for up to 8 years and counting...
Thanks for the info. I wonder if anyone knows if the lifespan on average is increased or decreased in captivity as oppossed to being in the wild. Anyone out there studied this?
I have asked that question of several people in the know but as far as I know there isn't really any number out there. I would assume that the lifespan would not be as long as compared to the ocean.
