I have had my 120 set up for now 14 months. I have 800 wt 15k xanium mh and 440wt vho actinic. Up into last night I had 4 clams.
squamosa, maxima, hippopomus, and a crocea. a few weeks ago the squamosa and crocea werent looking to good so I took them out cleaned their shells and put them back in the tank. within 2 days things were good again. last night everybody was happy. this morning I woke up and someone had eaten the crocea. I know if it was healthy it probably wouldnt have happened. I dose dt's every day too, and have a calcium reactor.
salinity 1.025 ph ~8 no nitrite or amonia, probably 10-20 nitrate calcium ~400 and ok alk.
this is the secon crocea I have lost tho everyone else seems fine. are crocea's really that tough to keep or am I having issues.
thanks

That's a tough one.

Did you find any pyramid snails? Have you checked often?

How far was he from your lights?

Best of luck!
Jeff

no snails found ... is a 24"deep tank 2-3 inch sand and lights are 10" above water.vho's 3" above water. and all clams are on the sand bed.... good flow and the other clams seem fine.. especially the max and hippo

ok lets see..... take the mantel make it 1/8th inch wrap it around the inside of the shell... some internals left but eithor some missing or just tiny.. this is a pic of the one that passed last year not the greatest but gives idea of what it looks like.. tho this one less meat

What kinds of fish do you have? Do you have hermit crabs?

Have you checked the tank to see it there is voltage in the water? I have see clams die within a day due to electricity in the water. Check you powerheads if you have any.

How big was the clam? less than 3 inches?

Check the bottom of the clam for fire worms.

In the picture it looks like the clam retracked into its shell. It happenes sometimes when they die.
