Clam

Bought a clam last week. I keep placing it on the sand bed and it keeps moving to its side. Could be that it is trying to 'shake-off' the hermit crabs. How can I keep it from falling on its side?

Thx

labrat31.. Very nice looking clam!!! Nice blue rim!!!

JAGreef.. Clams tend to move around until it is happy. It could be current, lighting or something bothering it (hermit crabs).

But my clams have never really paid attention to my hermit crabs.

Hey JAGreef,

Mine did the same thing for a few days. I simply wedged mine down in the sand a bit, he moved slightly until a happy spot was found. I have snails and crabs crawling on my derasa and it does not seem to bother him, well he does not move on his side. How is your water current and lighting in the area where your's is placed? I turned one of power heads down and this seemed to help mine settle in!

AGreef,

Try placing a flat piece of live rock under your sand bed and then place the clam on top. Clams like to attach their foot on a solid object. If they cant do this, they can become very stressed.

How large is the clam? I had one that was less than an inch. He was unable to attach his foot, became stressed and died. I later obtained one 3 inches in length. Within a couple of days he attached his foot and has been there since last winter. -Good Luck

Also, here's a grainy pick from my palm.

The clam is about 3" .... I placed a small flat piece of LR under it this evening ... so we shall see .... hopefully it will attach.

Thx
