I have a 10gal nano and I want to try a clam. What would be the best lighting for this size tank?

MindEraser with the 150watt would I only be limited to clams and sps? Also how would I control the heat?

I'm putting some fans in my canopy that I'm building to blow over the MH bulb and the water... which also causes an evaporation problem which I'm going to have an auto-top off to deal with. You could also use a chiller.. just some ideas.

I don't think you'll be limited at all, except maybe by the size of your tank. :D AB recommends their lights be placed a minimum of 30cm (~12 inches) above the water. At that height, heat shouldn't be much of an issue either.

Mind, I'm just wondering if you know the reasoning behind this? Do they recommend this because they want to prevent anything bad happening to the bulb due to heat issues or water splashing on the bulb.. etc..? Or are their bulbs actually less efficient for some reason when closer?

thanks

Generaly the 12" hieght is for light spread. With a point source light you need the light up above the water a little ways for the to spead out over the area.

Would a pendant be the best way to go?It would be alot easier to hang above the tank. Also if I use a 6500k do I need actinic?

i have a 250W DE HQI mini pendant about a foot over my 50. no heat problems at all. the height req is probably for light coverage. but for a 10g, you probably won't have to worry as much. the mini-pendants come with a glass uv shield so you don't have to worry about water splashing. also, with 150W, there are 20K, 12K(?), and 10k bulbs, which wouldn't need actinic suppl., unless you want to.
