Clams in a nano

Im facing the delama that I want a clam, , however I just don't have the money to upgrade my 35g tank, so I'm out to make a small 10g nano tank that I'll eventually be able to bring to college,(I was planning on doing this anyways, so I'm just trying to incorporate the clam into the system)

Would be lit by 96 watts of pc.

Would be just the clam and sps.

Is there anyway to make a clam work in this type of situation?

not forever, but for a while I had a maxima doing fairly good in a 7g AGA bowfront, id say i had it in there for a year ish, and it could have gone for another year, but i tore down my nanoreef.

I too am interesting in the possiblity of whether or not one can keep clams in a nano long term. I think it would be interesting to find out.

I have heard it go both ways. Over on nano-reef.com you will find mixed results.

I read one guy tried to keep a maxima in a 5g with 27w of PC lighting - didn't work, and he ended up giving the clam to someone with MHs.

On the other hand, I also read of someone with a ten gallon tank using 2 x 36w PCs (less lighting than what you have planned) and he was keeping maximas and acros. He had tricolor acros that were not losing their color or anything, he even had a table acro in there if I remember correctly.

But long term on clams, I'm still unsure. I do know you'll have to feed the little guys though.:)

i would NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER keep a clam in a tank w/out MH's...NO MATTER WHAT SIZE THE TANK!! you could prolly keep one alive in some situations....but would it be optimal or would the clam be happy.

i have kept my crocea for 5 months in my 20H...w/ nothing but POSITIVE results. i believe that i DO have optimal conditions for it.....unlike the guy on NR.com that thought he could do it w/out thinking about it first.

I wouldn't do it. I know the're pretty, but you have to do what's best for the clam, and a 10 gallon with PCs probably isn't it.
