Clams lowering nitrates

i know that having lots of clams in a tank keep nitrate levels down..

but do they also consume phophates?

they do! but I wouldn't depend on them to keep ether in check.ive got about 20 clams,100g fuge with calurpia(growing like mad)and another 50g frag with a bunch of xenia in it(also like mad)and I still need to do regular water changes to keep nitrates under control

hmm my nitrates and phosphates are at 0 at the moment. it's just a matter of weather or not i'd have to feed them if i got such a large amoutn of clams...

i mean if they feed on nitrates/phosphates... would i have to perpetually be dosing phyto cultures in there?

no. they depend on light. you wouldnt want or need to do that
