Cleanup after acyrlic polishing

Fellow Reefers,

I just finished buffing out a 50 gallon corner tank with the Novus products. The inside of the tank, even after washing multiple times with hot soapy water and washing with vinegar and then baking soda, still has a kind of "clay" or "plasticine" smell to it. What have any of you used to clean up after the Novus chemicals?

Thanks in advance,

i only used water out of a hose and an acrylic cleaning pad to lightly scrub it all down, then filled her up and added fish and corals. no deaths or ill effects so you should be covered. i also only used novus 2 &3 on the inside, didnt use the #1 stuff

So to get scratches out of acrylic, all you have to do is apply Novus? I thought there was some sort of sanding and buffing involved as well?

No, Novus requires elbow grease in very large quanitites! You start with a coarse polish, proceed to a fine polish and finally apply a shine coat. You then limp to your chiroractor and beg for mercy... :sad2: Seriously though, you can use *very* fine wet-dry sandpaper in conjunction with various buffers and polishes. Here is a thread on it: Acrylic Cleaning and Scratch Removal

well on my 180 i started out with 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper and then used every grit they make until i reached 2500 grit, this was all on my random orbital sander. then i used novus 2 & 3, also on the sander. got alot of the scrathes out but some of the urchin marks never came out. the sander saved me like atleast a day of labor, with the sander i spent about 6 hours to do just the inside of my 180. the outside took a little less time though
