clicking noise, not sure if is hermit crab to something else

i read on other tread that stressed hermit makes click noise

thats why i matched hermit molt that i found in the morning with a lot of click noise during the night

Crustaceans are vulnerable to predation during the molt. Increased predatory behavior as noted by increased clicking of the mantis or pistol makes sense and strengthens the theory.

Well if its a mantis or pistol they could be clicking to indicate "danger" that could mean they could be hiding while clicking. So you could be hearing it without seeing them. Doesn't necessarily mean they are going to hunt/ strike. If there's a crab that may have come with the LR than you want to get him out ASAP, they can be bad news. Look at the claws, large and pointed =predatory, small and blunt =fine.

The other thing I would guess is that maybe the hermits are feeling very threatened by something in the tank. But I don't think that hermits click too much.

The only thing I've ever heard "clicking" in any tank were pistol shrimp, mantis shrimp and a few different fish.

well you can't really tell from the video but that could be a gorilla crab or stone crab. if it has a hairy shell or a green with black dots coloration they are bad. But it seems like it's just eating algae. Just monitor your other inverts and if any go missing you know why.

yes it picks algae from rocks, since I don't have a sump his end would be... :-(

from pictures over internet is not a stone crab, probably gorilla crab

I hear small clicks coming from my tank from time to time. When I run over, it's just my hermits moving along the bottom of the glass wall. They aren't exactly smooth walkers, so their shell was tapping the glass. It was surprisingly audible from outside. If it happens during the day, just go over and check where your hermits are. If they are by the glass...then that may be the clicking you hear.

i'm going to try to ketch my crab tonight, here is night, but my shrimp just got in the glass and stole a peace of shrimp, i guess my clean up crew is going to eat tonight :-D

Good luck with catching him. They're super hard to catch, and gorilla crabs most likely wont fall for a crab trap.

Today around 3pm I heard that clicking noise. It is very loud and did see a mantis breaking the rock to make a home. It ticks me off that these little monsters come with live rock (fiji rock) We pay good money for rock and the little surprises are attached. I am almost sure that my Watchman Goby was attacked today. The mantis showed his ugly face in the hole that the Watchman had made. It does have a get away tunnel, the trap is set and we will see what happens.

no success with the trap tonight, i don't have any play or zoo and don't want them in my tank if he finds and eats i'll be glad

i read that he eats anemone, don't have and don't plan to have if it eats aphasia it is also ok for me

if i have a martin and gorilla crab i guess that martin would strike it

I had a snail wedge itself next to my powerhead. It caused the shell to vibrate against the glass and cause a clicking sound. That was an annoying few hours before I figured it out.

my huge turbo snail, used to LOVE sitting right next to one of my old cheap amazon powerheads, and it sounded like a small airplane. I'd move him and 20 minutes later hed be doing it again. It must have felt good or something, i ended up swapping it out with a quality powerhead and ever since it doesn't happen anymore lol
