Closed Loop Bulkhead Placement

So I am finally getting my 150 setup and I am trying to decide where to place the intake for the closed loop. I will be using a 2" bulkhead with a strainer on it, like this:

It will be attached to a Sequence Dart (3600gph).

I would like to put it in the bottom and have it covered by the rock, but am concerned about it getting clogged and not being able to get to it, and also that if a leak ever developed in the system the entire thing would drain.

My concern about having it up towards the top is that it won't be covered and the extreme flow through it might suck things up (fish, snails, shrimp, etc.).

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

what types of fish are you going to be keeping? If you are worried about fish getting sucked up you can just put a tee on the bulkhead and use two of those strainers. You could easily hide the Tee with aquascaping.

This is what I did. You just want to make sure you have the bulkhead low enough so you don't start a votex (sp? think that's the right word) and suck air down through it................6" or more should do it..

I would recommend keeping your screens up higher where you can get to them to clean. I used two 1.5" intakes with the spa type strainers. These are much less obtrusive than your standard ones.

Where can I get spa type strainers? All I've found are the standard, ugly, stick-out-into-the-tank kind.
