hey everyone got my 1st 2 fish. Two false perc clowns.... they are the 1st fish in my quarantine tank and after about 3 hrs now.... One of them seems to be struggling a bit by flapping his 2 front fins way more than the other and not as active, usually staying in one spot. the other one seems more relaxed in its swimming and is starting to nip at things. im no fish expert. but what can i do to help the other perc out (struggling)? should i wait it out a little longer?

my clowns acted funny when I first got them. I thought something was wrong with both of them. They acted weird for about 3-5 days. I've had them 2 yrs now and they act the same ol weird way. Clowns are just weird in general. I wouldn't worry too bad. Mine wouldn't move from one spot for like 3-5 days and now he's all over. But still weird! LOL

but in terms of struggling.. you can totally tell that one doesnt struggle swimming while the other does. Seems like the one thats struggling is going to drown.... maybe i am just worrying too much?

What are the parameteres in the QT ? Have you checked the ammonia levels ? What are you using for bio-filtration ? How long has the QT been setup ? How were both clowns behaving at the LFS ?

You can never worry to much. Clownfish are very unique. My first purchase was also 2 clowns. I noticed the smaller of the two doing the exact same thing (wait until you see them "sleeping" at night!) Just watch them, they are tough little guys. Just be sure to keep a lid on your tank though. Clownfish are born all males, when you place two together, one goes through a "sex change". My female chase my little guy up and out, didn't find him till he was jerky:( Good Luck with your new clowns.

yah i just got one clown fish last week.. he swims a bit funny at times.. and stays in one spot most of the time. it is a very strange fish.. glad everyone one else seems to say they are wierd also

Most of the time they swim against the currant of a powerhead. People think they are struggling but they will swim from one powerhead to another just playing. The only thing you can do is make sure the water is OK and wait. Make sure they are eating. The last two I quarantined would not eat brine shrimp, only flake food. I guess it had something to do with captive breeding.

i got my clown a week ago friday. he acted weird, staying in the top left of the tank all day every day, until yesterday. i think the damsels i had were beating him up. out of curiosity, how does your other clown behave toward him?
