An anemone would be a good idea. If hosted, it would be a perfect protective area just in case.

Make sure the clowns are bigger then 1"

rigth now the clowns are about icnh and a quarter and the lion is 6 inch and is housed with clowns at his current owners home

Even with the clowns at there full size, a full size lion will swallow them whole. A lion at ature size is about 12 inches, thecan get bigger than that. A ful size clown wouldnt be a problem to swallow.

maybe ill just put the clowns in my sump for the time being as the whole reason i started into salt was i wanted a lionfish then the girlfriend found out and did the " i want cute fish like nemo" act and the " you know youll do what i want or i wont give you what you want " face so yeah i got screwed into havign these clowns that im not completly fond of lol and my sump is about a 50g

A few years ago I had a lionfish and a med. sized tomato clown in a tank together; they got along without a problem until I dropped a frozen silverside in the tank one day to feed the lion; just so happens that the tomato clown decides to grab the silver side...not to smart of an idea. While the clown was swimming around with the silverside in his mouth, the lionfish decided to eat him...the last thing I saw of the clown was his tail sticking out of the lion's mouth

Problem solved. Drop in lion get, it eats Nemo. OOOOps!!! Sorry honey I had no idea.:D

Even a medium sized volitan will easily eat a full-sized clown IMO...they're mouths are much bigger than they look. If you have to do it temporarily, I'd recommend the clowns go in the sump. Even if the lion is handfed (not unheard of, I trained the one I used to have to eat from my hand) it will still eat anything in the tank that looks like food. HTH,

yeah the girlfriend will make me buy new ones lol i know her to well lol im thing the sump ideal is the one im gona end up with untill i get a second tank running or put the lion in the sump as my sump is almost as big as my tank LOL

You could get a small lionfish such as a Fu-Manchu. They don't get very large, and a full grown clownfish definitely will not fit in it's mouth. A full grown Volitan Lionfish will be 15" I'm sure any fish that is 5" or less would be an easy meal for an adult volitan.

yeah that defiets the purpose
i got a saltwater tank so i could have a black volitan lion
but for the time being ive got these stupid clownfish the girlfriend wanted
