Hey guys,

Well I just got home with a new frag. I got a rock packed with about 100, what I thought was xenia. When I got on the internet, I notice that I have some Cobalt Blue Anthelia. I was looking at one page and they had a little colony of these for 150 bucks!! Is this stuff rare? I will have to wait a few day for the guys to fully open again, but I thought it was just blue xenia. Any info would be great,

Michael

Well I guess im gonna have to do this the old fashion way, and search the web. I know it is about like xenia, so Ill be ok. I have some pulsers right now.

Treat it like xenia and it will do just fine. I put some in my tank about 2 months ago and it is spreading pretty well. Maybe not quite as vast as xenia.

The picture from coralssandbar doesn't look like anthelia to me, could be wrong but isn't anthelia supposed to be a mat instead of individual stalks.

I have a pink variety that grows incredibly fast, too fast actually it is taking over my rock of green palythoas.

mine kinda looks like that. it looks like xenia, but doesnt pulse, and it has individual stalks. mine just isnt as blue, but i figuered that mine just needed to aclimate. ive only had them for a week, and i see new ones already, so ill have to see were this leads, lol

By no means am I an expert, I think what I have is anthelia it looks just like xenia sprouting from a encrusting mat. Sorry no pic right now.

Here is a pic of my blue anthelia.

does yours kinda close around mid-day?? Mine kinda closes the fist so to speak, around 7:00 pm after the daylights have been on all day. When it is morning it is open and full. Is it just getting used to the light, or just not needing anymore light after a certin time?

Looks like xenia to me...nothing unusual or rare about it.
It is blue anthelia, it does not grow from a stalk. I never said it was rare. I was just showing a pic so the original poster would know what it looked like.

Pretty. :) Looks like you did luck out with it. We have "regular" Anthelia in our tank, looks like yours except pink instead of blue. Grows like crazy, especially in high light areas. Our pair of false percs host in it in our 75g tank. :)

Might have a picture I can upload, will go check.

In 75g tank, lower part of pic. Sorry the glass isn't cleaned but I'm leaving it alone to let sea stars graze.

I'm hoping to find some blue Anthelia *and* blue Xenia to eventually put in the tank.

It's Blue Anthelia , I have some in my JBJ 12gl. Over the summer there was a lot of it going around. It came from Vietnam I believe so the shipping killed a lot of it. Hence the high cost.

Well I guess the high price is over, because my frag was only 10 bucks. Most have made it through the acclamation period, so Ill have to see how fast they spread. Mine dont seem to like a whole lot of light though. I guess they will spread if they want more light, lol.
