Cod liver oil supplement

Cancer Sucks
I have a couple questions about supplementing cod liver oil. I have 3 tangs in a hypo hospital tank for ich. They're 3 weeks in, and the few ich spots are long gone.
However, a few days ago I saw a red dot on the yellow tang. From the sticky in this forum I figured it was bacterial and bought some cod liver oil capsules from Walgreens.

My questions:
How often should I put it in thier food?
Have any of you noticed a negative effect to the water after adding it?

After adding the contents of two capsules to their food, the water turned milky white with a film on the surface. Within hours, the pH started dropping, the fish were gasping for breath, and I did a 75% emergency water change.

The fish are all doing great now, the red spot is gone off the yellow, but I'm afraid of adding cod liver oil again.

Any thoughts?

How large (mg's) are the capsules?

You can convert the mg into a fluid measure by dividing the SG of the oil....
if 100 mg caps
100/0.925 = 108.11 ml

Ideally you want to dose 0.25 ml per feeding. More will just cause waste, take longer for the skimmer to start up again and affect the pH of the water. Not to mention degrade overall water quality. Take a few capsules and empty them into an equivalent of RO water, shake well/emulsify before use and store refrigerated when not used. The added water will allow for better distribution and less waste when soaking the foods. To use, add 0.5 ml of the liquid to drained or dry foods and allow to soak for 30-45 minutes minimum. HUFA additives combined with vitamin additives should be used on a daily basis where possible.

Cheers
Steve
