coke bottle traps?

I have searched for an hour, yet only find mentions of the trap and no directions on how to make one. I got some drop-dead gorgeous rock from TBS today. I found three mantis shrimp, but it sounds like one may have slipped by me. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Forget the traps

Forget the traps

Those guys are very smart and fast... I had 5 in on the live rock from the ocean... I only caught them by isolating the tank into halfs with plexiglass and watching when lights are off and watch what hole and what rock he hangs out on.. If you see him on a rock you have to be fast and pull it out onto a plastic tray very quickly before he runs to another rock and then find them with a flashlight and use very warm tap water with a turkey baster in the hole he is in.. Good luck... The will outsmart traps and you 90% of the time.

Cut off top 1/3 of plastic bottle. Invert the top and push back into bottom half. Semi-seal it. Put food into bottle and put into tank. Shrimps gol in and cannot find way to come out.

Thank you both. I'm going to try the bottle trap before messing with sectioning my tank or removing rock. I also need to do a little more research--it could just be a pistol making the noise. I'm new and haven't heard either before. The only thing I am basing my assumption on is that I put the other mantis' in my qt and am hearing the same kind of noise from there.
