Color Change?

Old Yeller Tang

I bought a Crocea almost 2 weeks ago. It was a teal color but now has turned purple. Is this normal? Will it change back to it's original cover?

Clams look entirely different when you view them from above the tank. they have a nice metallic look, but when they are viewed thru the tank glass they have a very misleading drab look to them. try viewing from above and see if it doesn't look like it did when you bought it.

Ok, yes it does look a little more teal from a top view but not nearly like it did when I first bought it. It's even more purple now, top view and side.:( Also, the mantle has some brown patches on it that look like it's been scraped or burned. What can this be? Is it a disease or just a flesh would and will it heal? I'll be doing some more reading into it but any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

The clams will adapt to your lighting, but also the viewing angle is very important. If it looks green/teal at the store (which is open top from above), it will look blue/purple in your tank. Something about the glass/acrylic. Go figure. I don't think its any kind of disease or burns.

mine looked green at the store..
but blue in my tank..just through the glass.
if i see it from the top..
it looks exactly that i saw from the store..
true color for the clam is from the top view..i guess..

Here are some basics. If your clam looks Green from top angle, it will appear blue thu the side of the tank.

If it appears blue from top, it will appear purple thru side.

Lighting has alot to do with it also. Clams under 65k, 10k, or 20k look very different.

Thanks for the replies!
I'm aware of the different colors they appear at different angles, it's just mine was very teal from the topview and in the pic I posted it clearly looks more bluish/purple from the topview. One thing that I didn't take notice to was the different ligthing which is probably the case here. I also wanted to know about the brown patches on the mantle. Is that abnormal or do some clams have this appearance even though my clam did not have those patches when I bougth it.
Thanks again!

Different wattages and kelvin of lights, can cause a change in the zooxanthallae just like in corals.

I am suspecting this is the case here.

Who cares Roland. LOL

It's an awesome clam and that's all that matters.

Trust me guys, if Roland says his clam changed colors, then it changed colors. Weird things like this always have a funny way of happening to Roland.

I guess I'll just go look for another teal clam!
