Colt Coral Propagation

Hi,

I have a very successful Colt growing in my tank, and want to ask about cutting it to "plant" somewhere else. I've read that this can be accomplished by cutting small branches.

Before I do it though, I want to ask if it should be cut at a branch relatively high in the animal, or should I separate one of the large stalks containing a bunch of branches (this one has three main stalks or trunks).

Thanks,
Joe

Joe--In regards to your question about cutting the branches or the trunk, I always trimmed off a higher branch myself. Don't know if cutting one of the main trunks is a bad idea or not.
I could never get glue to work with these guys, too slimy. I used bridal veil (fine nylon mesh) wrapped around the cutting and a rock, after a couple of weeks peel it off and you should be fine.

hey joez,

I found that no matter what I tried, I could not get the colt to stick to the rocks. seems that the daily expansion caused glue, rubberbands, and fishing line to all either break, or shift. I ended up sticking it in a hole in a rock in a low current zone and it stuck after about a week. Now I can put it wherever I want. As far as how big a branch to cut, my colt was kinda small when I cut it, so I only took a small upper branch. But in 4 months, it has completely grown back, and the cutting is almost as big as the original...

hope it helps~!
