tested myself for trites, trates and amonia
salifert says .1 - trites , 40 trates and .25 amonia
2 diff lfs's says my water is "perfect"

is it me ( i am not testing correctly) ?,
or
them (they just want me to buy fish) ?

they both are using ( i went to 2 diff lfs in my area ) aquarium pharma - "sw liq master test kit"

sounds like you should take your Salifert kits down there and show them how much the AP test are off :D.

one guy - i did not see the tubes - just said "right on the money"
the other guy - i saw 40 for trates , i got 50 w/slaifert , then i saw 0 for amonia ,i got .25 w/ salifert

Trust your Salifert kits. If you are doing it right, then it should be correct. And if you are still unsure about if you are using your tests correctly, had to the above link.

Words like "right on the money" are personal opinions, not test results. I'd just ignore them. I do my own testing.

Yep....What he said :)

If someone were to tell me my alkalinity was "right on the money" or "perfect", I'd look at them cross eyed and walk away slowly. IMO, an LFS opinion of water parameters are generally very different than the hobbyist.

maybe he meant - perfect for selling you something that will die so you have to come back and buy another one when your tank is done cycling.

- Trust Salifert - any company where the CEO will personally cross-check the batch numbers of your reagents for you will get my vote of confidence hands-down!

.25 amonia

Sorry, but I have to do this in a bit of hurry. :(

What color was it?

Was it white without any tinge? If so the ammonia is much lower than 0.25 and OK.

If it had a yellow tinge (regardless how light) or worse darker shades of yellow or even orange then the ammonia is too high.

The 0.1 ppm nitrites is high for a tank without fish (and assume no feeding yet).

Is it perhaps still cycling?

its was a cloudy white without tinges of yellow
tank has fish - pr of clowns, raccoon btrfly , 6 line wrasse , cleaner shrimp
feeding 1/2 cube mysys every other day

In that case it sounds as if the ammonia is well below 0.25 ppm.
