copepod culture

I just started a "nano culture" in a 2.5g with some mail order pods. Easy to set up, but haven't seen any growth. Not sure how long it takes though. I can keep yah posted.

Check out Florida Aqua Farms. They stock equipment, cultures and manuals for just about any critter you might want to grow. I am gradually getting into the whole aquaculture realm in preparation for attempting to raise Red Striped Cleaner Shrimp and so far I have successfully cultured algae enriched Artemia salina and algae innoclulation cultures on agar plates. I think I also have my sterilization protocols down and am ready to try for a "bloom culture" of microalgae next, which I will use use food for rotifer cultures, copepods, etc.

Bought mine online. They're those "Tigger Pods." In the bottle I saw alot of red pods cruising, but don't see anything in my culture yet  . Water is fairly green with DT phyto though.

I have had real luck with my tiger-pods. I just use a few drops of Phyto feast every couple of day to just keep a green tint on the water. I have been told that if you add to much food, it can spoil. I just keep a 2.5 gallon tank with a lid and an airline pumping maybe two bubbles a second. I don't add any special light or anything. They are just sitting on my table in my dining room, much to my wife's disapproval. They do great. I originally kept some of the tigerpods in the bottle they came in just in case my culture crashed, but I haven't had any problems. Piece of Cake!!!!

As I understand it, the pods reproduce where there is live rock in contact with substrate, and they eat algae. I have them all over my glass constantly in my main tank, and two fish eating them have not dented their number. I have an aragonite base and a lot of live rock in contact with the sand.
