copperbanded butterfly

I don't think it matters much just make sure it is eating good before you take it home. Of course the Au one will prob have a huge price tag if it's like anything else from there.

I try to keep Copperbands in every tank I service, as well as the tanks in my home and shop. I'm not even sure how many I have. They keep Aiptasia under control, and don't hurt other inverts. Ron is right - just make sure they are eating before you buy. Location is unimportant.

IMO, CBB can rapidly deplete small invertebrate out of an aquarium. Yes, they are very useful in controlling aiptasia but they also feed on feather dusters and many other fauna, including pods etc.. Keep this in mind when acquiring a CBB, most will not live very long if there are not tons of pods for them to feed on. You may be able to sustain them with mysis or brine but they will not live for years on these food sources. Also they have been known to bother clam mantles and polyps in some instances.

having a bit of aiptasia problem right now and need to nip it the butt. if they hurt s few inverts I'll have to live with it thanks for the help

Hope you get one that eats it. I had one starve itself in a tank full of aiptasia. Only thing it would eat was brine and mysis shrimp.

I believe what I see, and I am suspicious of everything written. That's why I don't like to post anything about livestock I have not seen first hand.
Personal experiences with many CBBs:
• I used to think Copperband Butterflies were hard to keep until I began to keep them. I've lost a few, but no more than any other fish.
• I've been keeping CBBs for years with clams and corals never had a problem. But I feed all my fish several times a day.
• Even my clients keep CBBs for years, feeding a blend of food I make for them (no big secret - it's just a seafood mix). And they feed NO Mysis (gasp!) But I highly recommend Mysis (as well as black mussel) for all Butterflies.
• I did have a CBB unable to keep up with Aiptasia growth in a client's 125 - but I put a Raccoon Butterfly in and the pesties were soon gone. I think some CBBs only eat tiny Aiptasia - or none at all. But that's rare, in my experience.
• The tanks here at the house have tons of 'pods, stars, snails, worms, tiny featherdusters and other critters, and both have Copperbands.
DISCLAIMER: I use refugiums in all personal tanks and all but one customer tank.

fishguy is no doubt on to something.
Several years ago I saw a 7-8" positively obese copperband. Dennis had her for 5+ years and hand fed her his "special blend" several times a day. I don't know if he had a 'fuge or not back then but that was one healthy fish.
