would like to get cbb-but am wary of what the t hey will pick on -supposedly reef safe-what should i worry about

I got one about a month ago to help with ridding my Aiptasia. Well it did a great job but the one thing I dont like about it is that it picks at my scallops. Other than that it gets along with all my corols and fish. I whatch it clean out small holes in the live rock too.

dont have any scallops -was thiking about flame scallop though-pepermint shrimp took care of my apstasia

maybe this is a stupid question, but what is a coral banded butterfly? did you mean to say copperband butterfly?

*edit- at any rate if you are talking about a copperband then you may want to do some more research because from what i understand they are not the hardiest fish in the sea and are sometimes hard to get eating

i had a copperband a while ago, it refused all types of food i offered, including live food. if you are going to get one, try and get one from australia as opposed to indonesia - apparently they are better looked after - net caught not poisoned etc - and have a much higher survival rate

I've got a large "Copper Band Butterfly" in my 150gal FOWLR tank and he has cleared out all of the aiptasia that I had in the tank in about a weeks time but is still finding food to eat in the LR.... He remains very healthy ( two months in ) and ventures out at night to feed... That's the only time I've seen him out swimming in the tank..... I've tried feeding him brine,spectrum pellets etc but he's refused it all.... But I know he eats at night ( pods and such i reck'n )... I bought him from Marinedepot.com ( Large size )... If you buy the smaller ones on-line, they will not give you the same guarentee... However, if you find a nice one at a good reputable LFS, you may also get a good long lived one... They are still very picky eaters and one of the hardest to keep in captivity...

I would not call a copperband an easy fish. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give them a 3. I have had many of them and although they all ate well I have never been able to keep one past about 5 or 6 years and a fish like a CBB should live at least 10 years. They are almost like a moorish Idol (but not quite as bad) in that they have a personality and each fish is different in their temperment and their diet. For some reason this fish will eat fine for years then all of a sudden stop eating and die with no outward signs of disease. I have autopsied a few and so far have not found out the cause.
