Coral Color

My colors in my LPS have faded(mostly the greens). I was wondering of a chemical that promotes zooxanthallae population? I feel like I should buy some iodine, since I don't dose that. What do you guys think?

Corals lose there zooxanthallae when stressed. Colors have to to with nutrient levels lighting. Pretty much any parameter out of wack can make it lose color.

Did you have the LPS for a while and they lost color all of a sudden, or did you recently purchase them and the lost color since you had them?

If its the latter it could be a lighting issue

be careful with iodine- it can really help corals, but its real easy to overdose than it causes big problems, only dose if you will test.

Agree with the others, don't dose what you don't/can't test for. How long did you have them before they lost their color. For return of color I would concentrate on target feeding them more often if lighting and stress turn out not to be the cause.

I've had them for a while, but for a month I didn't do a water change. I just got lazy:( I do a 10% every Friday and have a dosing schedule of Brightwells LiquidReef and KoralColor. I recently changed my lights but they faded before that. It seems like only my greens faded

There is a product called zooxanthallae or something like that, is supposed to bring this specific nutrient back to the coral. Let me find the name and I'll let you know.

I've read many cases, and all the people had great results. It brings this nutrient back to the coral, it also brings coloration, and is good for clams. Sometimes corals are not able to make this nutrient themselves so is good to use it.

Alex, I have been feeding like a mad man lately and will go broke soon, but the colors are getting dark and rich. Like I discussed with you last weekend and stated hear, there are a few things that cause bleaching.

IMO, most common in this order:
1. Low Nutrients (must feed!!)
2. Alkalinity (must keep this stable or leads to #4)
3. Lighting (as important as alk, however most have good lighting)
4. Stress (Bugs, temp, coral warfare, etc.)

The only color fading is the greens in my frogspawn, hammer, and acans. Don't know if this is significant. My green trumpets are bright green, and my green monti(new) still is a nice green
