Coral spawn?

Not sure but I think this is spawn? I have had this coral spawn a few times and have a few smaller ones from it. This time it went on for about 25minn. It's hard to see but when it shrinks up look close and watch between the plate and snail in the upper left and you will see it go by. Quicktime movie 3.3MB http://www.cupofjoe.org/corals.AVI Let me know what you think?

I definetely see something going by where you said. Very nice camera work. I'm not an expert enough to judge what I saw as spawn but that would be my guess. GJ either way.

it very well could be...plate corals tend to do this in captivity fairly often. i cnat tell from the video but was the stuff spewing out colored at all, even if it was whitish, etc?
good luck

Yes it was a red color. The first few times it was a big cloud then it slowed to what you see.

There's a really good video out there that captures a plate coral spawning. I can't think of the name right now but tomu should know what it's called.

I saw the same thing happen with my pagoda cup.

It was spitting out tiny balls from each mouth, and the fish went crazy and ate all of them. I was worried that it was giving up it's symbiotes, but the wife says she's seen it before, and it always looks very healthy afterwards.

It is either expelling waste or trying to make babies.

Anyone else see this from a pagoda?

Does the skimmer go crazy? I get a skimmer going crazy every month or so, it drags a ton of water out of the tank suddenly. Say up to that point I get a cup a week and then suddenly I get a gallon in a few days. I've been wondering if it was some type of spawn... Is your skimmer dragging a bunch of stuff out after this happens?
