coral turned white, others of same are fine

This coral turned white in 48 hours. Others fragged off are doing fine.

Tank params:
ALK = dKH = 9
Calcium = 480
Mg = 1550
PO4 = .05

other facts: This coral is closer to the lights and than the others in the same colony, so maybe it is the intensity of the light?

Any thoughts would be helpful on what I should check next?

Fragging is a stressor, something could have caused stress already in the coral...and this one just gave up the ghost.

If it was already stressed, this combined with moving it higher could have very well caused it.

Different species react differently.

Were you fragging a piece that was already in trouble? Which was it, looks to be a BN.

WOW I did not know an Acan could sting. That is probably what it was.

polyps of gsp will also kill many sps...easily overnite...i am sure that's what happen to that sps...

I have an sps that did the same thing over about a months time, but it's still alive and has been for about 3 months. . .Polyps still extended and no algae growth on it (looks fine except it's white). . .I think it's a digi, but it could be porites. . .Alk=9, Ph=8.2, Mag=1400, Cal.=440. . .It was a very light orange when I got it and stayed that for a while, but when i moved it up closer to my t5's it turned white. . .Can anyone explain this?

Now my acan/favia is growing some brownish fungus on it. Something is going on here that is not good.

I'm pretty sure that's a favia (I've got one that looks exactly like it). . .I had something like that growing like that in my tank a while back. I was told that it was a dead spot in my current, and it would go away if I added more flow in that area.

Acans will sting SPS like that? I usually see pictures with Acans growing close to base of SPS.

that looks like brown jelly disease... bad news for lps. It probably wouldnt hurt to try a dip and use a powerhead to clean off the coral.

Yes it does look like brown jelly. can it spread to other coral or is it just specific to favias? What should I dip it into?

Dip it in lugos. I had a bad alk swing and lost a few heads of frogspawn and a few mushrooms to it. I suctioned out what was on the rock and removed dead heads.

Looks like something stung the favia really bad. And now the dead tissue is slothing off/being ate by bacteria.
