ok heres the problem i have had this tank runnin for 1 1/2 years and i have corarline on all my rocks and its real thick and in the fuge and on all the powerheads and the problem is that it wont seem to grab to the glass at all i have 2 crabs in the fuge but 2 more in the tank so is there anything i can do to help this?

People will say everything from your lights to your mg. levels.

I bet if you dose a little Sr. it will grow.

Coraline algae grows better on plastics than glass... ( don't ask me why... it's a molecular thang )....

Dude, what are your Ca, and Alk levels. Make sure CA is 375-400ppm and Alk 8-13 dkh. this is first. To do so easily, look into C-Balance, a two part supplement by Two little Fishies. Also, scrape some corraline from the rocks and powerheads and let it blow all around the tank. This will help it grow on glass. Do these two things and be patient(it will take about 2 months to notice it growig on the glass but it WILL happen!

Now, where can I find some acrylic rocks...

No need to be a smart butt here..... I think you knew what I meant.....

The stuff will grow anywhere but not in bright light. It does like almost anything better than glass though. Acrylic or plastic is it's favorite. Here it is growing on asphalt which has some of the same chemicals as plastic. The asphalt is under the anemones.
I have very little on the glass but it covers the cement rock and asphalt. It grows on real coral rock of course but the items stated above gets covered first.

Personally, I would love it if coralline didn't grow on my glass. Consider yourself lucky - scraping with a razorblade is no fun.

Had an interesting coversation with Todd, owner of the Something Fishy. He indicated to me that Purple Up --a suppliment designed to promote coraline growth--essentially is a molecular binding agent--it coats the rock, etc in the tank and makes it more conducive for coraline to grow

LOL, I was almost rolling on the floor when I wrote that, should have put one these :lolspin: on that post. Seriously tho, most folks who successfully get coralline to spread agree that it likes high alkalinity, high Mg and high Ca, just like other corals.

Aim some flow where you want it to grow, and don't necessarily expect rapid growth in high lighting areas. Sounds like the parameters are good otherwise -- it's growing so that's good.

I agree. I read this in another thread and since have been dosing it. It has only been a little less than two weeks and the coraline is growing faster than ever!
