coralline algae startup

I thought I read somewhere on a thread that coralline algae can be green when it first colonizes a new area. Is this bogus or true for at least someone?

green or green to purple

green or green to purple

Does it start green and turn to purple, or is there a green variety?

I have some areas that bleached completely white. They get some grey color, and then the grey slowly turns to purple/pink. Coralline can come in any color, although the most common is purple, pink, and green. The green variety can be hard to tell apart from algae in some cases, but if you look close, the green coralline is kind of a 'mint' pastel color. My theory is that the amount of flow determines the color. In some areas of low flow, I even have some yellow and blue colors.

minty!

minty!

I have some of those mint pastel patches of algae. I have some good dark and light purple, too, but was curious because of a post I had read talking about it turning from gren to purple. It seemed somewhat unlikely to me.
