could it have been an alk drop?

ok so yesterday my "new"(had it in the dt for 3 weeks) cultured green millie started to rtn along with a blue tort which was added at the same time, I have a feeling it was caused by an alk drop due to faulty test kits, has anybody else experienced rtn from a slight alk drop

btw heres a pic of the millie 3 days before the stn event, I managed to save about half of it

i'm having issues as well with my alkalinity. I have 3 test kits: tropic marin, salifert, and la motte.
The lamotte was my primary test kit until I saw things were going wrong and the test kit was reading an accurate 10 dkh.

Bought new test kits, retested and they were different from the lamotte both the tropic marin and salifert were fairly close to eachother so something is wrong with my la motte kit. I even bought extra refills and tried those as well from my experience buy a few kits to make sure the tank is actually stable.

For the longest time i said what is going on the readings are spot on and issues with receeding kept occuring

That could definitely be it. I was out of the country for over a month and for about 4 weeks my pH was super low....as in about 7.4 based on the readings from my AC3. When i finally got back i did notice some STN on a few colonies, especially at the bases. Ran some tests and found alk to be around 4dKH. Boosted it back up to around 10dKH over a few days and the STN completely stopped. pH is also back to normal as well (around 7.8-8.0).

Elo's makes the best test kits in my opinion, i've used plenty of other brands and Elo's is always dead acurate, my DKH kit i just got from them works perfectly and reads in 0.5 incriments, so 2 drops equals 1 DKH and has a color change, by far the only kit i'll be using from now on

used to use Instant ocean and it was off by about 1-2 DKH unlike the Elo's
